Profile Of 1976 Heisman Trophy Winner Tony Dorsett

Tony Dorsett was born in the 7th of April in 1954 in Rochester, Pennsylvania. Dorsett was known as one of the great professional football players of all time, but his trail to becoming one of the great professional players of all time started before his professional career ever began.
Dorsett played college football at Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has never been known as one of the bigger football schools in the nation, but Dorsett was from the state and decided that he would stay within the state for his collegiate career.
Staying in the state was one of the best things that ever happened to Pittsburgh as they had the pleasure of having one of the greatest college football players of all-time. Dorsett started things out the right way in his college career as he was chosen as a first team All-American in his freshman year at Pittsburgh.
He continued to dominate his opponents throughout the course of his college career. He was named as a first time All-American three separate times throughout his college career. In the only year that he was not named a first team All-American he was chosen as a second team All-American. ...

The All-American award was not the only award that he got in his college career. He also earned the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp Award and the Heisman Trophy. These are all prestigious awards, but the most prestigious of all of them was the Heisman Trophy. He also helped his team win the national title in 1976. He was named the 7th best college football player of all time by ESPN and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame for his excellent play.
After his college career was over Dorsett was determined to take his talents to the professional level. He was drafted 2nd overall in the draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He would play all but one season with the Cowboys, before heading to the Broncos to finish off his career.
Dorsett was one of the best running backs of all time and finished his career with more than 12 thousand yards rushing. His 12,739 yards could have been even more, but after his last season he suffered injuries that prevented him from playing any more. He also managed to reach the end zone 92 times over the course of his career. He was inducted into the Pro Football hall of Fame after his career was over. More than a decade after his career was over he was named the 53rd best football player of all time by The Sporting News in their list of the greatest football players.
Over the course of his career he racked up accolades and is the only player in history to have won a Super Bowl, a College National Championship and a Heisman Trophy while also being inducted into both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fames. He is certainly one of the great athletes of all time. His legacy continued as his son was a pro player and even made the Super Bowl twice.
