Mitsubishi Motors is also into the creation and testing of electric vehicles. This move was probably due to the increasing popularity of vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries and requires charging instead of refueling. In addition to this, Mitsubishi is also responding to the rising competition for the market of electric cars. As a result, the company has created their own version of electric cars that would eventually be included on their new car prices list. The electric car is dubbed as the Mitsubishi “i” and this is set to compete with the Volt and the Leaf. Aside from its all-electric feature, the Mitsubishi i has other significant features such as the following.

1. Price

The 2012 Mitsubishi i will be sold in an MSRP of about $27,990. This is the exact amount that would be placed on the vehicle but the MSRP’s amount is expected to reduce due to tax credits. As soon as both the federal and state credits are deducted, the Mitsubishi “i” is believed to be sold around $16,000 or even lower.

Given this calculation, the ...
... “i” is expected to be more affordable compared to the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt. Since it is cheaper compared to its closest competitors, Mitsubishi believes that many creditors would want to finance this electric vehicle using different types of auto loans. However, Mitsubishi is also willing to provide their potential customers with the best new car deals for this vehicle so as to help them purchase a unit of their own.

2. Length and curb weight

The 2012 Mitsubishi i has a total length of about 145 inches and a curb weight of about 2,595 lbs. Due to this, it is quite obvious that the “i” is smaller compare to the Leaf which is about 175 inches long and the Volt which is 177 inches long. Mitsubishi’s electric car is also lighter compared to the two of its closest competitors.

3. Recent developments

As of the moment, this vehicle is intended to be released to the automotive market by November. However, Mitsubishi has selected 4 states that would be used as the vehicle’s test driving areas and this includes the states of Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, and California.
