Snow and ice courses, which are more recent inventions, use brightly coloured balls instead of the conventional white colour.

Golf courses by length include full-length courses with 9 or 18 holes within a range of 5000 yards to over 7000 yards. Executive courses are paced faster and include only 9 holes. These are for people who do not have the time to finish a full-length game. Par-3 and approach courses have par 3 holes. Pitch and putt courses have shorter lengths of 90 yards. Cayman courses allow you to take full swings for shorter hitting distances. A special ball called Cayman ball is used for these games.
