Many countries have found that gambling can be a great source of revenue if they legalize it. There are taxes levied on gambling that brings revenue straight to the country. While there are definitely some questions surrounding the ethicality of legalizing gambling, there are many people that are quick to point out that whether or not it is legal, there will be people doing it. These people believe that the countries might as well allow it to happen. One of the countries that has legal gambling activity in their borders is Italy.

One of popular forms of gambling in the state is sports betting. Much of the sports betting is based on their most popular sport ôfootballö (better known as soccer in the United States).

There are two different types of games that the Italians prefer to bet on. There are Italian Serie A football(soccer) games and there are Italian Serie B games. The highest level of play in Italy is Serie A and naturally people prefer to bet on the higher level games compared to the lower level games.

While sports betting is popular, recent reports show that the sports betting market has actually ...
... been on the decline over the last year. This has been specifically true with online betting. There have been reports that it has declined as much as 21 percent from amount of betting that happened last March compared to the amount that happened this past March.

There are a lot of questions as to why the market would change so dramatically. One of the biggest reasons for the change in the market has been the fact that there are fewer Serie A football matches. One year ago there were 5 Serie A football matches compared to just 3 matches this year. This shows that people will tend to bet more money if there are more events to bet them on rather than putting the same amount of money into fewer matches.

While the lack of football matches is one explanation for the slow month, there is also evidence that the market is down overall. Over the last quarter the online sports betting market is down more than 6 percent from what it was at a year ago.

While online betting is at a low point, in-play betting is actually on the way up. In-play betting has increased by 13 percent compared to what happened in March 2010. There were bets placed on 208 different events during the month of March.

There is little evidence to suggest that the market for online betting will continue to decrease in the way it has over the last year. The internet is being used for more and more things as time passes and you can expect people to turn back to the internet for gambling. It may not happen over the next year, but in time the market will pick back up to what it was a year ago and it will likely even surpass what it was in the past.
