Football has grown to become the most popular sport in the nation as people watch it religiously on the college and professional level. Because the sport is so popular, it has helped the Super Bowl to become the most popular event in the United States. The event attracts the attention of the entire nation as they tune in to see the best two teams play each other for the chance to become Super Bowl Champions.

The 1982 Super Bowl featured the San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals. These two teams squared off in front of a crowd of more than 80,000 people in Pontiac, Michigan.

The game featured a hall of fame caliber player in Joe Montana, but it was before Montana actually was known for his ability to carry his team to Super Bowl victories.

Montana began to make a name for himself as he ran for a touchdown in the first quarter of play. He was not known for being a mobile quarterback, but he did manage to total 18 yards over the course of the game and scored that touchdown to help the 49ers go ahead 7-0.

The Bengals were simply unable to get things going offensively in the first quarter and ...
... they did not manage to score a point in the quarter. Their woes continued into the 2nd quarter and they were shut out for the entire quarter by the 49ers.

San Francisco continued to work it offensively as Montana found Cooper in the 2nd quarter to put in the 2nd touchdown of the game. The pass was for an 11 yard score and the 49ers were up 14-0 after the score.

Things continued to go well for San Francisco in the 1st half as they managed to drive deep into the Bengals’ territory two more times in the half. With their drives they were unable to punch the ball into the end zone, but they did manage to kick in two short field goals of 26 yards or less. These field goals gave the 49ers a huge advantage entering the 2nd half as they would be up 20-0 against their opponents on the biggest stage in the NFL. The 49ers were certainly in a good place.

While the Bengals were behind, they were certainly not ready to give in. They scored a touchdown on a 5 yard run from Anderson to cut the deficit to 13 points. The Bengals continued to fight hard into the 4th quarter as Anderson found Ross for a 4 yard touchdown early in the 4th quarter to cut the lead to just 6 points.

The 49ers responded with 2 field goals in the middle of the quarter in order to extend their lead, pretty much sealing up the victory. The Bengals did respond by scoring another touchdown on a pass from Anderson to Ross, but the deficit was too large with too little time left and the 49ers won the game 26-21 to become the 1982 Super Bowl Champions over the Cincinnati Bengals.
