The 1976 NBA Playoffs featured a different crew of teams as teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks failed to qualify after having been perennial contenders for the NBA title for years.

The teams in the playoffs included Golden State, Seattle, Phoenix, Milwaukee and Detroit in the Western Conference as they changed the format of the playoffs to include 5 teams in each conference instead of 4. The Golden State Warriors were the top seeded team in the conference and they were scheduled to take on the winner of the game between Detroit and Milwaukee.

The Eastern Conference was led by the Boston Celtics. The other teams in the playoffs that season were Cleveland, Washington, Philadelphia and Buffalo. The Celtics would take on the winner of the series between Philadelphia and Buffalo as the Celtics were the top team in the Eastern Conference.

The Eastern Conference game was also a series that was stretched to its limit as Buffalo and Philadelphia were tied 1-1 going into the last game. Buffalo managed to come out on top when the game was over and the Celtics would take on Buffalo in the first round.

The Conference semifinals were tough for every team as every series went to 6 or 7 games. The Golden State Warriors and the Pistons had a solid battle in their series as Detroit stretched the series to 6 games against the top team in the conference. Ultimately, Golden State was just too god and they qualified to move on towards the Conference Finals.

The Phoenix Suns fought it out against Seattle and they managed to upset the higher seed in 6 games in order to advance to take on the Warriors in the Conference Finals.

The Eastern Conference was a little more predictable as there were no upsets in the Conference Semifinals. The Boston Celtics took out Buffalo in 6 games and Washington was sent home by Cleveland as Cleveland managed to win the series in 7 games.

The Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns had a full 7 game series in the Conference Finals as the teams went into the final game tied 3-3. The Phoenix Suns had already upset one opponent, but they were not done yet. They managed to take home the victory, qualifying for the NBA Finals.

The Boston Celtics managed to put away their opponents before the 7th game, winning the series 4 games to 2 against Cleveland. This put the Celtics in line to win yet another NBA Championship if they could take out Phoenix.

The series between Phoenix and Boston was a solid one, but it was clear that Boston was the better team. They took the series in 6 games in order to become NBA Champions over the Phoenix Suns.
