Things To Know Before You Buy A Vaporizer
Many people are purchasing vaporizers in an attempt to limit carcinogens and toxins associated with traditional smoking. For those not familiar with vaporizers here are some tips and pointers that will familiarize you with how vaporizers work.
The first question that people ask is, “Why try vaporizing in the first place?” The immediate benefit is that when you burn plant material you're actually burning a lot of the desirable ingredients as well. Studies show that you lose up to 40% of the key ingredients when using flame. On the other hand vaporizing is clean, green and retains a much higher percentage.
Another benefit is that, unlike burning, vaporizing can utilize less desirable material that is perhaps not as fresh. The vaporizing process will revitalize some tired plant material, again saving you money. You can "re-vaporize” any plant material you vaporized earlier.
One big reason that many people are vaporizing are the health benefits. By vaporizing, you are avoiding the carcinogens and toxins inherent in the burning process. Also, you're not getting the heavy odors with vaporizing that you ...
... do with burning. However, vaporizing is not completely odorless – some people compare it to the smell of burnt popcorn.
Now let's look at how the vaporization process actually works. Unlike burning which can happen at temperatures as high as 1200°, vaporization takes place around 350 to 400°. The material never reaches flame temperature but is heated enough to release the key ingredients from the plant material into a mist or vapor. The vapor is collected in a dome, bag, bubble or whip before it is drawn into the lungs.
The result is a very smooth intake without the intense overkill associated with burning plant material. Even better, your material lasts much longer and can be used as a food ingredient later.
Herbs are generally a light green color when first put into the vaporizer. Slowly they will turn to a light brown color, and over time when they are totally used up they will become dark brown.
Well, there are some very expensive vaporizers available for enthusiasts; most consumers will want a midrange model or a value model in order to get the most for their money. Top-of-the-line vaporizers cost upwards of $500. Midrange models fall in the $250-500 area while value priced entries come in anywhere from $50-250.
With this knowledge of the benefits of vaporization, how the process actually works, and some of the prices, you have a much better idea of what to expect.
