Having back pain is just about as common as having a headache because many people dont know how to prevent it or treat it. Back pain can be attributed to several conditions and circumstances. If you have an injury or trauma, compression fractures, osteoporosis, arthritis, a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, kyphosis or a narrowing foramen, these are all reasons that you may have back pain. Back pain is something that varies from person to person. Some people could have back pain that is very temporary, mild, debilitating, intense, and chronic or a combination of a few of these characteristics. Having chronic back pain is arguably the worst kind of back pain because it is persistent. Chronic back pain is classified as such because of the lengthy duration of the pain. Back pain lasting more than three months is considered to be chronic.

Many people treat chronic back pain in different ways. There are three main methods however, that target back pain. They are physical, chemical and surgical/instrumental.

Physical

There are many physical methods of treating chronic back pain. These methods are normally the first ...
... step in a treatment program. Most people hope that these methods are enough to solve their back problems so that they dont have to go any further with more invasive treatment options. Physical treatment methods include exercise. Exercise is excellent for developing musculoskeletal strength and flexibility. Exercises that are focused on the improvement of muscle ability and the reduction of tension can help you manage your back pain. By discontinuing participating in stressful activities that can cause strain, injury and trauma, you are physically changing your behaviors to reduce your pain. Physical therapy, massage therapy, electrotherapy and hydrotherapy are also physical methods of treating this kind of pain.

Chemical

Sometimes physical treatments arent enough to combat the chronic back pain you are suffering from. There are pain relievers that can help to elevate your results. They can be taken in conjunction with physical treatments depending on how severe your pain is. The most recommended pain relievers are NSAIDs or non -steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These types of drugs include all the medications that contain naproxen, ibuprofen and aspirin. Other less popular medications includ acetaminophen and narcotics. Narcotic pain treatment regimens must be closely monitored and prescribed by a doctor because they can become habit forming and addictive. Muscle relaxers may also be used for pain relief.

Surgical/Instrumental

The worst part of having chronic back pain is how much it can affect you every single day. Your entire lifestyle can be changed by persistent back pain. The things you used to be able to do may not be as appealing because of your back pain. The most intense and severe back pain is sometimes unaffected by physical and chemical treatments. Sometimes surgery is needed. Surgical procedures and instrumental implantations should be the last resort. With the advice of a doctor you should consider surgery very carefully because this could cause complications and require extensive time to recuperate.
