The National Hockey League features the best collection of talent around the world for hockey player. The teams play through a long season before squaring off in the playoffs in pursuit of the Stanley Cup.

In 1975 the playoffs featured 12 teams that qualified for the pursuit of the Stanley Cup. The playoffs were formatted in such a way that the three best teams in the league would earn a bye in the first round. This meant that they would advance directly to the 2nd round without playing and the other teams would play to see who would take on those top three teams. The Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens were the top three teams in the league and they earned their spots in the 2nd round.

The Los Angeles Kings and the Toronto Maple Leafs were scheduled to play in the preliminary round. The winner would play against the Flyers in the quarter finals. The Kings were the 4th seeded team in the playoffs and the 12th seeded Maple Leafs. As the last seeded team in the playoffs the Maple Leafs weren’t expected to make much noise in the playoffs, but they were going to give the Kings a run for their ...
... money.

The preliminary round was different than the standard rounds in the Stanley Cup playoffs in previous years. This preliminary round would just be a best of 3 series. This meant that the first team to win 2 games would win the series. The Maple Leafs shocked the Kings by taking 2 out of 3, advancing to play against the Flyers in the quarter finals.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blue would play as the 6th and 10th seeds in the playoffs. The Penguins were too good and had the only sweep of the 4 games played in the preliminary round.

The two teams from New York, the Rangers and Islanders, played in the preliminary round as the 7 and 8 seeds. These two teams had a great series, but in the end the Islanders managed to come out on top, winning the series 2-1. This meant that the Islanders and the Penguins would square off in the quarter finals.

In the bottom half of the bracket the Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins would play. The Black Hawks were the team favored to lose, but they upset the Bruins with a 2-1 series victory. They would advance to play against the Sabres.

The Flyers absolutely dominated the Maple Leafs, sweeping the series easily. They advanced to the semi-finals.

The Penguins and the Islanders had an epic series that went down to the stretch. These teams battled it out, but when all was said and done the Islanders came out on top with a 4-3 series victory.

The Sabres disposed easily of the Black Hawks and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Canucks. The Flyers and the Islanders had another epic battle in the semi-finals, but the top seeded Flyers came out on top to advance to the finals. The Sabres beat the Canadiens 4-2 to face the Flyers.

The Flyers managed to beat the Sabres in the finals to become Stanley Cup Champions.
