American football is one of the most popular sports in the United States today. While many other sports have been around a lot longer and have more support from other places around the world, American football has truly dominated the sports scenes within the USA for years.

While many people would assume that the dominance of American football would be based mostly on the professional level, that is not true at all. There are some sports, such as baseball, where people do not care much about the collegiate level. However, college football is one of the most popular sports to watch and follow in the United States.

The college level has always featured some great athletes that dominate the competition. There is an award given out each year for the most impressive players in college football called the Heisman Trophy award. This award is prestigious and most players dream of ever getting the opportunity to be considered for the award. There was one player, Archie Griffin, that was not content with the idea of being considered for the award once.

Griffin was a running back from Ohio. He was a great running back ...
... in high school and earned himself a spot on the Ohio State Buckeyes after his high school career was over. He was an absolutely dominant running back during his time at Ohio State and from the time he was a sophomore he was already being considered for the Heisman Trophy.

While he was being considered from his sophomore season, he was not yet at the forefront of the discussion. It was not until his impressive junior year that he finally managed to become the frontrunner for the award. He had a fantastic season and carried the Buckeyes throughout the season. Because of his great efforts he won the Heisman Trophy award in 1974. There have been a ton of Heisman Trophy award winners, but there haven’t been any quite like Griffin. He was not content with his Heisman Trophy award and continued to dominate at the collegiate level in his senior year. He had this third stellar season in a row and made history by winning his second consecutive Heisman Trophy award for the Buckeyes.

After his stellar college career, many people assumed that he would be a big hit in the NFL. He was drafted in the first round by the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals had the 24th pick in the draft and landed the 2-time Heisman Trophy winner.

While he was an extremely successful back during his time at Ohio State, he never quite caught on while playing for the Bengals. He was solid over the course of his career, averaging 4.1 yards per carry, but he never was a franchise running back the way that many people expected him to be. He played from 1976 until 1982 and compiled 2808 yards over the course of his career and punched the ball into the end zone 7 times. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and will always be remembered as one of the all-time greatest players to ever play at the collegiate level.
