The Comptia Network+ Exam N10-004
CompTIA’s Network+ certification is aimed at IT professionals with nine months experience in comptia network exam support or administration. The Network+, exam code N10-003, was first introduced in 1997 and was most recently updated in May 2005. As of mid 2005, CompTIA says that over 150,000 people hold this certification. Network+ is an entry-level, vendor-neutral certification that you can achieve on your way to more advanced certifications, such as the Microsoft MCSE and EC-Council CEH. In fact, whenpaired with the CompTIA A+, it counts as an elective for the Microsoft MCSA. Although there are no prerequisites for this certification, CompTIA recommends that you possess the A+ certification.
This certification is well suited to system and network administrators. The Network+ designation is achieved by passing one conventional format exam that covers topics including: media and topologies, protocols, standards, network implementation, and network support. The Network+ certification thus demonstrates the candidate’s knowledge of foundational networking subjects. Like ...
... other CompTIA offerings, once a person achieves the Network+, the certification will not expire.

When a civil engineer designs a highway intersection, she knows the materials she has to work with and the physical forces that she must support. She knows this from study, education, and experience. She knows how to design structures from concrete and steel to support the weight of many vehicles traveling at high rates of speed. There are standard lane sizes, cants to the curve, a correct numbers of beams, and a proper thickness of surface. There are safety features too: rounded side rails that taper to the ground at the ends of bridges and ramps, paved shoulders, and gentle curves.
When you design security as the foundation for your network, you have fewer precise rules to work with and less concrete laws to reinforce your decisions. Opinions vary widely about what tools you should choose and what path you should follow. Nevertheless, reliable guidelines exist and a solid security infrastructure can be designed. The chapters in this 70-640 section will tell you
