An ear infection would occur in either the external ear (External Otitis), the middle ear (Otitis media) or in the inner ear (Labyrinthitis). External Otitis or an infection of the outer ear is also known as swimmer’s ear. Symptoms of this include itching, pain in the ear, hearing loss, moderate to severe pain as well as a sensation of fullness in the ear. An infection of the outer ear occurs when the protective film on the top of the ear canal is removed. This happens when water, sand, dirt or any debris enters the ear. Frequent swimming or exposure to water increases the chance of infection to take place of the outer ear. Other causes of infection of the outer ear include bacteria and fungi. The moist and wet conditions help the bacteria or fungi to thrive. One ear infection home remedy for an infection of the outer ear is to avoid swimming. This will prevent water from getting into the ear. Another remedy is to press a hot water bag against your ear. If this does not help, try putting a warm bag of salt against your ear. Using ear candles helps ...
... to relieve the pressure that is built up in the ears. Try using a hair dryer on the affected ear as well. Put the hair dryer on the warm setting. Ensure that you have set it to the correct temperature by testing it on your hand first. The warm air will help to evaporate or dry out any water that is in your ear. You could also put a few drops of garlic into the affected ear. Another remedy for infection of the outer ear is to do steam inhalation. Add some ginger, eucalyptus or peppermint to a bowl of steaming hot water, place a towel over your head and inhale. Symptoms of a yeast infection in the ear include a white discharge, itching, soreness, shooting pains and difficulty sleeping. Such a yeast infection results in the inflammation of the outer ear. An effective home remedy is yawning as it opens up the Eustachian tube. It drains the airway of any moisture present which helps to get rid of the infection.
