But how to win in a student challenge? Obviously, you need to read the requirements carefully and ensure your work clearly matches competition guidelines. However, there is more than that – small tricks that can maximize the chances of your success. We analyzed the winning student works and comprised a quick overview of the insider tips on how to win a student challenge:
1. Carefully choose your team and make sure you end up with the best one. Look for people who have the necessary skills and attitude as well as appropriate motivation. Ensure you have a pool of various backgrounds and expertise by searching for people with different ...
... experiences.
2. Be original – innovative entries are always favored by the judges. In order to facilitate creative thinking try to engage in brainstorming or use Bono’s six thinking hats. In the beginning it is absolutely crucial to put forward as many ideas as possible, regardless of how realistic they are.
3. Be feasible – once you have many ideas on the table start thinking about how executable is each. Do not simply take the easiest one – try to pick up an interesting solution and make it work. Use numbers – even of you hate math and finance, basic calculations are essential for any competition entry as they add credibility to your idea.
4. Execute well – creativity is great, but without proper execution it is worthless. Prepare by carefully reading the requirements and make sure the layout is appropriate. Before submitting your work try to give it to one of your friends and ask for the feedback to ensure the material is readable and understandable.
5. Smile and present well – practice before presenting and make sure to make a good initial impression. Judges will rarely remember your performance unless you are confident, enthusiastic and clear about your idea.
6. Socialize and network! Although networking is not directly related to winning useful people can nevertheless give you valuable ideas and advice as well as assess your entry. You also can get an internship or job offer just by getting to know the right people. So don’t forget to attend all the social outings and have fun!
