Greg Raymer’s Win At 2004 Wsop
The World Series of Poker is the most prestigious event in the betting world. While the World Series of Poker started off as somewhat of an exclusive event, the World Series of Poker has grown to become a large tournament that attracts the attention of the best poker players all over the world.
In 2004 the World Series of Poker was held at Binion’s Horseshoe. The event was commonly held at Binion’s Horseshoe, but it was purchased by Harrah’s Entertainment during that year. There was an announcement made after this that the World Series of Poker was going to be played at different venues in future years. The World Series of Poker would return to Binion’s Horseshoe in the future, but it would be on a moving circuit between member casinos in between visits to the old brick and mortar casino.
The number of entrants this year in the tournament was incredible. In years past the event would continually grow, but in 2004 the main event was tripled in size from the year before. In 2004 the World Series of Poker had 2576 entrants in the main event. The deal for each player is that they had to qualify and then pay ...
... 10 thousand dollars to play in the tournament. The 10 thousand dollar fee would go towards the prize money for the top players in the event. For years the event would yield a prize of 1 million dollars for the winner. The stakes were much higher in 2004 as the winner was in line to win 5 million dollars. In fact, every player in the top 5 would be in line to win more than 1 million dollars.
In previous years it was necessary to win major tournaments at major casinos to qualify for the World Series of Poker. In recent years the event started to change and many players qualified for the World Series of Poker by winning online tournaments.
The main event was a game of no-limit Texas Hold ‘em. This is the event that most people remember, but it is certainly not the only event available for poker players. There are 32 other smaller events that feature different types of Texas Hold ‘em, Stud, Omaha, Draw and many other type of poker games. The prize money for each of these events was much smaller, however. The winners of each event would win somewhere between 40 thousand and 500 thousand dollars for their achievements.
The winner of the main event in the 2004 World Series of Poker was Greg Raymer. Raymer brought home a $5 million prize for his accomplishment. The runner-up in the tournament was David Williams. While Williams was doubtlessly upset to lose the tournament, he had to be happy to bring home 3.5 million dollars as a prize. Josh Arieh was the 3rd place finisher and won 2.5 million dollars. Dan Harrington won 1.5 million dollars for his 4th place finish and Glen Hughes rounded out the top 5 and brought home 1.1 million dollars from the tournament.
