Usc Trojans Win Ncaaf National Championship At 1973 Rose Bowl Game
The Rose Bowl is considered to be one of the most prestigious games in college football. The game generally features some of the best teams in the nation. The Rose Bowl is one of a few different bowl games that can be used to decide which teams will be national champions. Depending on the year the national championship game could be played at the Orange Bowl. Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or Sugar Bowl. In 1973 the Rose Bowl was used to decide which team would be the national champions.
The game was played between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the USC Trojans. Just as those teams are perennial contenders in college football today, they were contenders in the in the 70s almost every year. The Buckeyes were 9-0 entering the game and the Trojans were 10-0.
The Rose Bowl is played in Pasadena, California and it is often almost seen as a home game when the Trojans play there because they are based out of Southern California. The game had an incredibly high attendance of 106, 869 viewers. This was a record for any bowl game and the most people that the stadium had ever held at a football game to that point.

... started off with a score from USC in the first quarter. Mike Rae was playing quarterback and he found Lynn Swann in the end zone for a 10 yard pass. Things were looking good to that point in the game for the Trojans. The Ohio State Buckeyes did not managed to score in the first quarter, but they were certainly not ready to give up yet.
The second quarter was more positive for the Buckeyes as they were able to keep the Trojans scoreless. Not only were they able to keep the Trojans scoreless, but they were able to put some points on the board to pull the game closes. The Buckeyes had a 1 yard run from Keith and tied the game up before half time.
The third quarter is when things really started to get good. The quarter started with USC scoring first. Sam Cunningham managed to punch the ball into the end zone with a 2 yard run to start things off. This would be the first touchdown of many for Cunningham for the game.
The Buckeyes managed to respond with a 21 yard field goal, but they were still behind 14-10. From this point on the Trojans began to dominate the game.
Davis took a turn scoring for the Trojans with a 20 yard run to put the Trojans ahead 21-10. While the Trojans were already ahead, Cunningham was just getting warmed up. Cunningham proceeded to take over the game with 3 more touchdowns on goal line plays. He finished with 4 touchdowns on the game and set the record for Rose bowl record for touchdowns in a game. The Buckeyes did score one more touchdown before the game was over, but the final score was 42-17 in favor of the Trojans.
