The Pittsburgh Steelers dominated the NFL for two consecutive seasons before the Super Bowl in 1977 and many people expected them to continue their dynasty with another run to the Super Bowl. The previous two years' Super Bowls were won by the Steelers over the Vikings and Cowboys. The Steelers were unable to qualify for the chance to win their 3rd consecutive Super Bowl in 1977, but the Vikings did make their way back to the Super Bowl. They would take on the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XI.

The game started off slow for both teams offensively. Neither of the teams was able to get things going in the first quarter, and there were no points scored in the opening period. This came as a surprise to many as there were some very talented offensive players on the field for both teams.

The 2nd quarter is when things came to life as the Raiders lit up the scoreboard three separate times during the period. The first score came on a 24 yard field goal for the Raiders just seconds into the quarter.

The scoring continued for the Raiders as Stabler managed to orchestrate a drive that took them into the red zone of ...
... the Vikings. The drive ultimately ended with a 1 yard pass from Stabler to Casper. The Raiders were up 10-0 after converting the extra point.

The Raiders still had one more score left in them for the first half as Banaszak managed to punch the ball into the end zone from one yard out with a few minutes left in the half. The Raider failed to convert the extra point, but they were still up 16-0. The Vikings were stifled offensively in the first half and they did not manage to score at all. They would enter the half down 16 points to the Raiders.

The third quarter began with more scoring from the Raiders. While they were not able to put the ball into the end zone again, they were able to further their lead with a 40 yard field goal. The score was 19-0 following this field goal.

The Vikings did manage to put points on the board before the quarter was over. Tarkenton managed to find White in the end zone for an 8 yard touchdown pass. Cox kicked the extra point to make the score 19-7 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The Vikings needed a score early on in the quarter if they hoped to win this game, but the score simply did not come for them. The Raiders actually managed to put 2 touchdowns on the board before the Vikings could respond at all.

The first touchdown came on another run from Banaszak from two yards out. The second touchdown came from an outstanding offensive play as Brown returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown for the Raiders. The Raiders were up 32-7 after those two score as they failed another extra point.

The Vikings did manage to score one more touchdown, but the Raiders were just too good and won the game 32-14. The Raiders were Super Bowl Champions.
