The NBA Playoffs had been an awesome experience in the years previous to 1973, and thing just continued to get better in 1973. The previous years in the playoffs featured a couple of matchups between the Knicks and the Lakers. The Knicks managed to take the first of these matchups and the Lakers took the second, winning the NBA Championship in 1972. This meant that the Lakers would be the team to beat as they tried to defend their title in 1973.

The teams representing the Western Conference included Milwaukee, Golden State, Chicago and Los Angeles. Milwaukee was the highest seeded team and the Lakers were the 2nd seed. The Bulls and Golden State filled in at the 3rd and 4th spots.

The Eastern Conference was dominated by the Boston Celtics and they earned the top seed in the playoffs. The Knicks were a great team and managed the 2nd seed. The 3rd and 4th best teams in the Eastern Conference were Baltimore and Atlanta.

The Bucks had high expectations entering the playoffs after their great regular season, but Golden State was not going to let them look past the first round. The Warriors fought and had the ...
... biggest upset of the playoffs by winning the series 4 games to 2 over Milwaukee.

The Lakers and Bulls had a great series in which both teams gave all they had and the series went to the wire. The Lakers and Bulls were tied 3-3 entering game 7 and it looked like the Bulls might upset the Lakers. When all was said and done the Lakers managed to pull out a victory to advance to play Golden State.

Things played out the way they were generally expected to in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Atlanta managed to give Boston a run for their money, but the Celtics finished the series in 6 games. The Knicks were dominant and Baltimore was only able to take home one victory in the series.

The Lakers and Golden State squared off in the Western Conference Finals, but Golden State simply had no magic left from their previous series. The Lakers looked dominant and walked away from the series with 4 wins to just one win for Golden State.

The Celtics and Knicks had an awesome series as both teams were clearly hungry for a championship. The Celtics had watched the Knicks take center stage in the conference and they had hopes of stepping back to the forefront of the league. The series stretched to 7 games before the Knicks managed to win the series and advanced to play against the Lakers for the NBA Championship.

This was the 3rd meeting in 4 years between the Lakers and Knicks and they knew each other very well. The Knicks were clearly ready for the Lakers in this series and dominated the Lakers from the beginning. The Lakers hardly managed to put up a struggle, winning just one game in the series. The Knicks were NBA Champions.
