For each of us and for every age person there is a bed, a place that is harbor to our intimate moments.
The cradle in the bedroom interior has always symbolized the dawn of life. This mini bed is readied before the birth; it expresses all the hope and passion of love and of lovers.
Looking at beds as an interior part of the bedroom, which of course have been with us throughout our life, we see how life used to be and expressed and how it is lived today.
Probably just a rug or animal skin was used as a bed in ancient period in bedroom interiors and eventually it became a means to express power by kings, queens and emperor's. Artists and artisans must have been appointed by them to create extra ordinary beds.
1) The first bed; Cradle- this bed has always symbolized the dawn of new life in bedroom. Usually this bed is ready before the birth, this bed is never discarded as per Indian belief, after its use it is tucked away in the store room or is passed on to others or taken out again to welcome the next generation.
2) The second bed; Parents bed - this is a bed which a child shares with mothers comforts ...
... and fathers bed time stories or could be with other child. This is the bed from where he would perform his first stunts; from here he jumps up and down and discovers the pleasures of flights, the fun of pillow fights and game called Doctor, This bed also acts as shelter during childhood sickness i.e. chicken pox, to fevers.
3) The third bed; the childhood and teen bed- It is the bed of the first dreams where one finds one alone sometimes sad and misunderstood. It is the bed where one might read, write, study or dream.
4) The fourth bed; Bed for the newly wed- A double bed, king size, large and soft created to their individual taste, covered with colorful silky sheets and soft pillows, a designed bed fulfilling dream of ones own choice. A sacred bed which would keep all its importance and the memory as the bed of the first night.
5) The fifth bed; Temporary beds, could be hospital bed, hotel beds, beds in train/cruise liners/air planes or guest beds. These beds are witness to various conditions of life.

He says that the bed is a place to dream, to reflect, to build an imagined future, to remember. The more space around it will help one to feel more free and fresh, and the space around it will be like a nerve centre with telephone, pen, pencil, paper and tools of daily life at hand.
As an interior designer B.R Gandhi feels that selecting a bed is always a personal choice, Cleopatra liked a reclining bed, Napoleon liked elegantly designed bronzes bed, but one has to have a practical consideration while deciding on the aesthetic of the bed. Bed can be a piece of decorative furniture; can be symbol of self image, character and personality.
When it comes to interior, one also has to consider comfort and health in the bed. A good and firm coir mattress to support the spine should be used.
Treat the bed as a piece of art, put your heart in to it, and allow it to reflect your moods and sentiments. Whether it is the sleeping place for you or your family member or your guest, it could be an expression of your caring and your love for them.
