The Importance Of Teaching French For Schools
A lot of primary schools here also teach French to pupils of a young age, particularly in years 5 and 6. They learn the basics such as greetings, numbers from 0 to 26, about your family or home, and days of the week. The teachers may play French songs on a CD player to encourage the children to get involved and learn it which will help them to remember the alphabet for example or a series of numbers. Various other games may also be set so that it allows them to have fun whilst learning and make them more interested in the French language.
More and more secondary schools are making French mandatory for all years up until year 11 and encourage the pupils to take it as a GCSE because it looks good on a CV to a potential future employer. It shows that they can connect with people of other languages and cultures which is something their business may require. Over half of the UK's world trade is with European countries so it makes it even more important. Topics taught in pre GCSE secondary courses may include how to introduce yourself in a number of different ways, about your home life and family, where you live, the chores ...
... your parents ask you to do, what pets you have, what subjects you learn at school and a larger list of numbers up to 1000. You will also repeat things such as learning the alphabet and days of the week. You may learn about French restaurants and what sort of food they provide as well as shops on the high street. This will all help you if you are looking for French tours and want to ask where a place is for example.
In the GCSE stages, you will be likely to learn more ways to talk about your family, pet and friends, including what your best friend is like, as well as my local region, daily routine, home and housework. You will need to learn various tenses including the past, present and future so this may be done by discussing types of holidays you have been on, are going on and will go on. You will probably learn phrases about work experience, healthy diet, future career, what you do in your free time, television, sport, music, cinema, reading, pocket money, the environment, and what you will do when you leave school. Grammar is a very important part of learning a language so you will know how to use various symbols not in the English vocabulary as well as other ways of saying things.
