The World Series of Poker is the most popular gambling event in the world today. The World Series of Poker has become so popular that many people have begun watching poker on television and playing poker online in hopes of becoming as good at poker as the professionals are. In years past the World Series of Poker was an event that was exclusively for those people that made gambling their career as professionals, but modern tournaments are often won by players that are not seen at the major tournaments in casinos. Instead they are players that have earned their keep by winning major tournaments on the internet.

The World Series of Poker in 2003 was the largest event to ever take place in the brick and mortar casino. It was held in Binion's horseshoe as is tradition. The main event featured 839 entrants. Each player that enters the tournament is required to pay 10 thousand dollars for their entry fee. The 10 thousand dollar entry fee would go towards the pot for the winners of the main event. The main event is an event where the players play Texas Hold ‘em. Texas Hold ‘em is a poker game where each player is ...
... dealt two cards. They keep those same cards throughout the game if they decide to stay on the table and play. The rest of the cards are laid out on the table. Each player is able to draw from those cards and add them to their hands to make plays. Between each time that cards are laid down on the table the players have the opportunity to bet and force other players to put money on the table or to exit the game.

While the main event is of course the most popular event of all of the events at the World Series of Poker, there are actually 35 other events that players are able to play in. These events include type of Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha, Stud and many other variations of pokers. Each of these smaller games has different stakes and rules to vary the experience at the World Series of Poker.

The final 9 players at the World Series of Poker in 2003 would be Chris Moneymaker, Dan Harrington, Jason Lester, Amir Vahedi, David Grey, Young Pak, David Singer, Sam Farha and Tomer Benvenisti. The interesting thing is that there were many players in the top level of this tournament that were actually granted spots in the World Series of Poker by winning poker tournaments on the internet.

David Singer would take 9th place in the tournament and he brought home 120 thousand dollars. David Grey finished in 8th place and won 160 thousand dollars. Amir Vahedi and Young Pak were in the 6th and 7th places and earned 250 thousand and 200 thousand dollars respectively.

The first player out of the final 5 was Tomer Benvenisti. He left with 320 thousand dollars for his play. Jason Lester won 440 thousand in 4th place and Dan Harrington won 650 thousand dollars in 3rd place.

The top two players were the big winners, bringing home 1.3 million dollars for 2nd place and 2.5 million dollars for 1st place. Sam Farha would be the 2nd place finisher and Chris Moneymaker was the 2003 World Series of Poker champion.
