Gambling is one of the most popular activities in every part of the world. Many countries have made gambling activity illegal because of its addictive nature and illegal activities that surround it. Other countries have embraced the potential revenue that surrounds the gambling scene.

India has laws that make sports betting illegal, but the fact is that those laws haven't done much to keep people from betting on sports illegally. People have continued to gamble illegally and there are many suspicions that the money that is made from the illegal gambling is used for even worst activities.

The money used for gambling may be used to illegal drug trade or even terrorist activities. With the money going to these sorts of destinations the country has been trying to determine the best way to slow down the illegal betting.

India decided to take the issue to court to decide what would be the best way to deal with the problem. The courts gave a surprising answer. They believed that the best way to deal with the problem was to make betting on sports legal.

While this sounds like a crazy idea, their reasoning ...
... for legalizing sports gambling was interesting. They saw that the money could go to the country to benefit better causes than those of drug trafficking and terrorism. The court suggested that the money collected through sports betting could even assist the welfare system for the country.

The court also suggested that the current policies on sports betting need to be enforced if it is not legalized. There were accusations that the police were not really trying their best to stop the illegal betting that was going on. The court called for an increased effort from the police to increase their efforts to uphold the law.

The main sport that attracts betting in the country is cricket. Cricket is a game that is played with a ball that is pitched and a paddle that is used to hit the ball. It is in some ways comparable to baseball in America, but there are definitely differences between the two sports.

The illegal industry in India is enormous. For any cricket game there could be thousands of bookies that are running illegal operations, trading money and taking bets for the games. There have been rumors that the industry for illegal betting is so large that there was money put into the industry that was equivalent to more than 4 billion dollars in the United States.

The country will continue to deal with the issues at stake until some changes are made. These changes could be in dealing with gambling more strictly, or it could involve changing laws that make sports betting legal. It will likely take some time before the issue is fully under control, but it seems that government in India is looking for ways to take care of the issue at hand. If gambling is legalized it could solve their problems or it could cause other unforeseen problems that have not been thought of. Time will tell what happens with India.
