Employment Opportunities in Radiologic Technology

Illinois radiologic technology colleges train technologists to work in hospitals, clinics and doctor's offices performing x-rays and other diagnostic imaging tests. These tests are used for nearly every medical condition from bone and joint problems to medical conditions affecting any organ in the body.

What do Radiologic Technologists Do?

Radiology technologists do much more than take just x-rays. Technologists prepare the patient for examinations and must understand how to position the patient to obtain the correct images. They may also learn to perform mammograms, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. Some will assist with biopsies, hospital procedures such as stent placements, fluoroscopy or nuclear imaging testing. Technologists work directly with patients and doctors.
