Use Effective Home Remedies For Jock Itch
Jock itch is a fungal infection in the groin area. It is a part of the group Tinea and is also called Tinea cruris. Moist and warm areas are a perfect environment for the growth of a fungus. So, the groin area is at risk of getting infected. This may spread to the inner thighs as well. It causes an itchy rash which is usually ring shaped. The name Jock itch comes from the fact that people who sweat a lot are prone to getting this infection, and usually athletes come in this category.
This is contagious and can spread by sharing towels and clothing. It starts in the folds of the groin when the groin is sweaty and can spread to the inner thighs as well. It causes distinctive looking rashes on the skin. Some time blisters occur and get filled with fluid. It causes a lot of itching which can be highly embarrassing.
Excessive sweating can lead to Jock Itch. If the groin remains moist and warm for a long period, it can get infected. Also, our body is home to fungi and bacteria. They can spread to this area and multiply in the warm environment. Other causes are heat, tight clothing, athletic supporters, obesity, friction ...
... and humidity. Athletics are prone to having Jock Itch. People with low immunity and diabetic patients are also susceptible to this condition. It can also result as an allergy to certain detergents, chemicals and bleaches used in laundry. It is usually not a serious disease and goes away on its own if care is taken.
The symptoms are red rash, itching, burning sensation, redness on groin or thighs, sores and blisters, cracking and peeling of skin.
There are medications available for this condition like anti fungal creams and washes. Severe scratching can lead to skin injury which can bring in more infections. Some home remedies to give relief from the itching are:
1. Vinegar: Dip a wash cloth in diluted vinegar. Soak the cloth and then squeeze the water. Apply this on the affected area.
2. Tea Tree Oil: Dilute Tea tree oil and apply on the Jock Itch.
3. Garlic: Include garlic in your daily diet. One can also directly apply garlic by crushing the garlic cloves and mixing with little honey.
4. Wash: Wash the area two three times in a day to keep it clean. Wash especially after sweating.
5. Powder: After wash. It is important to keep the place dry. Apply some powder to keep it from getting moist.
6. Clothing: Wear cotton undergarments. Do not wear tight clothing. Wear clothes which don't restrict air circulation.
The best home remedy to prevent Jock Itch is to maintain proper hygiene. Keep the groin area dry and clean. Avoid sharing personal clothing and towels and try to be hygienic. Diet is important since some foods can aggravate a condition. Avoid sugary foods, oily greasy food and alcohol. Eat lots of fruits. Avoid wearing nylon and similar material clothing which can restrict air movement and result in infections.
