There are various types of range cookers to choose from when you are getting prepared to shop for one or more of these kitchen necessities. The decision about which range cooker you will buy rests upon a number of fundamentals with regards to the price, manufacturer, fuel type, width, colour, and available accessories.

In terms of range cookers and cooker manufacturers there is quite a list to select from and here we can mention a host of top names like Baumatic, Smeg, Indesit, Cannon, Stoves, Britannia, Rangemaster, LG, Belling, Leisure, Falcon, Mercury, and many more. For all these models there definitely is a wide selection of cookers which vary in terms of dimensions, configurations for hobs, and fuel type.

Looking at range cookers and cooker from a size perspective, it should be pointed out that the aspect being focused on here is the width of a given range. More than 90% of the cookers being manufactured nowadays fall into any one of four width categories and will feature adjustable feet at 35-43inches i.e. 90cm. The said four width categories are as follows:

90cm wide (35-43inches) also referred ...
... to as the 36 gas stove or 36inch range

100cm wide (39-37inches)

110cm wide (43-31inches), and

120cm wide (47-25inches) also referred to as the 48inch range or 48 ranges

When it comes to fuel type there are also four variations of range cookers and cooker as follows:

-All electric i.e. the top burners and the two ovens are electric

-All natural gas i.e. the top burners and the two ovens all use natural gas

-All LPGas i.e. both the top burners and two ovens use LPG

-Dual Fuel i.e. these feature gas burners on the top and electric ovens. They are also referred to as electric gas stoves.

Range cookers and cooker are available in a variety of colours with the most common being stainless steel, black and cream. Whatever your choice, it all depends on personal tastes and preferences.

Last but not least is the price issue. Currently we have three main categories of range cookers' cost and these are:

-The under £1000 ranges - these are the cheapest ranges available. They are lightweight and usually feature a single oven

-1200-2400 ranges - these represent the widest category of ranges

-2500-4000 ranges - most of the ranges in this category have small ovens; most people buying such are in actual fact purchasing a name

The following pointers will also come in necessary as you select from a wide scope of range cookers and cooker:

Oven size - The size of secondary ovens can be smaller in comparison. For this reason it may be advisable to purchase a 100cm cooker rather than a 90cm one as the larger breadth will in most cases mean a larger secondary oven.

Catalytic liners or stay clean liners - These help keep the interiors of your ovens clean; replaceable liners are not as desirable as they may need to be changed after years of use.

Triple glazing - This feature ensures that the range cookers and cooker doors will remain cool as you cook.

Triple ring burners - These are very ideal if you mainly use large saucepans, woks and frying pans. Two triple rings burners may be much better than single ones depending on your style of cooking.

Efficiency rating - It is important to know the rating of your oven(s)

Amongst the other features you should check out for in range cookers and cooker are detached grill compartments, griddle features, individual pan supports and telescopic trays.
