Do it yourself car repairs are not that intimidating. There are simple repairs that even a car owner like you could handle just by using the information from credible car advice posted on the internet. One of these is installing the brake lights of the car. Installing the brake light's bulb can simply be accomplished using the following steps:

Step 1: Examine the brake light

Inspect the brake lights and figure out how to get access with its bulb. This is important since the manner in which the brake lights are sealed depends on the car's model. There are models where you need to loosen the screw on the light's outer lens. Other models require going inside the trunk before you can access the bulb by. You also need to remove a plastic cover in order to loosen the screw or remove the clip or knob that serves as its lock.

Step 2: Remove the bulb

As soon as you are able to gain access to the bulb, try to remove it from the brake light assembly. Turn the bulb to the left until it is loosened. Gently pull the bulb and try not to destroy it. This ...

Step 3: Buy a new bulb

Using the one you removed from the brake light assembly as the sample, buy a new bulb at the nearest auto parts shop. Make sure to purchase a bulb that is identical to the old one. Have the brand new bulb checked before leaving the store. It is advisable to buy an extra bulb for this serves as a replacement in case the newly replaced one gets busted in the middle of the road.

Step 4: Clean the assembly's connection

Before installing the brand new bulb, clean the brake light assembly. Scrape the connection using a knife or a flat screwdriver to remove any rust or corrosion. According to most car advice, these substances reduce the transmission of the electric charge that enables the bulb to glow.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

Place the new bulb into the connection by pressing and turning it gently to the right. Make sure not to over tighten the bulb for it might get damaged. Replace the covers and the locks to its original position in the same manner as it was removed. Check the result of your work by turning the car's engine on and testing the tail lights.
