The main objective of establishing the 1st parliament of Indian Student Council Leaders is to get the youth more involved in the important wakes of life and make decisions that affect the growth of the country. This parliament will give students the right platform to meet and interact with eminent leaders like politicians, social workers, environmentalists, media personnel and others who contribute in making our world a better place to live in.

Although India has seen a lot of growth in the past few years, the decision making process has been limited to a small section of its population. The increase in poverty, illiteracy, corruption and other social evils threaten to make things worse if strict action is not taken about it right now. Under the guidance of a governing council consisting of Shri Rajesh Tope, Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Shri TN Seshan, Former Chief Election Commissioner, Prof Dr. Vishwanath D. ... of today and important leaders of our country who can join hands works towards building a better nation.

Change is inevitable in order for progress to be made. The youth of today can bring about this change by bringing forth new ideas and helping in the implementation of these ideas in different fields. The first Indian Student Parliament is designed so that the students get a chance to meet the leader in different fields and discuss the healthy changes that can be brought up in the Country.

The format of this meeting included 11 sessions and speeches focusing on different topics such as opportunities for students, terrorism, state of women and others. Each session was followed by an interactive session between the participants and leaders followed by voting on each resolution. Some of the salient features of the resolutions are:

Provide scholarships to students belonging to the economically weaker sections at both the graduation and post graduation

Setting up vocational training units in the naxalite districts of India so that the affected youth can obtain funding and help from the State and Central Government

Educating student leaders about the rights of citizens and the responsibility of the Government administration

Providing hostel facility for economically weaker students at both the graduation and post graduation level

Changing the curriculum in colleges and Universities so that it is more job-oriented

Making the youth aware of the importance of saving the environment - each individual can make a significant contribution by protecting and planting one tree in their lifetime

To start elections for Student Councils in different States

To start mandatory Self defense training for female students at all the colleges and universities
