Body armour is becoming an indispensable piece of kit for rugby league and rugby union players. Upper body protection has been a regular feature of the sport for the last 20 years. When purchasing body armour, you should look out for equipment that provides you with total comfort and protection on the pitch. You also want durability as you want your armour to withstand the tough conditions associated with rugby. The areas most vulnerable to injury are the chest and the shoulders, which often take much of the impact in tackles, so it's important these areas are well protected.
Body armour must fit perfectly, otherwise it will be extremely uncomfortable on the field, as well as increasing your getting injured. But remember, wearing body protection doesn't mean you are invincible and can do things others rugby players can't - you'll do yourself more damage if you think like that.
Some things to look out for when shopping for rugby body armour are:

Breathable fabric to keep you cool
Made from very strong and lightweight materials
Comfortable fitting

Head Protection
Ever since ...
... rugby turned professional in 1995 there are tough rules about using protective equipment on the pitch. Head protection is usually made from light man-made materials capable of mitigating serious impact. They're often used by front row forwards to prevent blows to the head and damage to their ears while in scrums or mauls.
The most important thing to remember if you want to wear head protection is to make sure it is comfortable - otherwise it will cause unwanted pain and injury. If the head protection moves when you shake your head, then it does not fit you properly.
