Cedar Wood - Qualities That Endears Across The Ages
For centuries Cedar wood has been prized by builders and artisans for its natural beauty. In Canada's British Columbia, native people have used Cedar wood to support their lives including canoes, totem poles and homes for thousands of years. Like our ancestors, you can use Cedar wood for your home. Today's Cedar is a mainstay for architectural design. Its properties are legend and include color, ease of installation, durability, ease of finishing, and of course aroma. Finally, Cedar is very environmentally friendly or green.
Unfinished Cedar boards have a rich textured grain with a color range from amber, to reddish cinnamon to a rich brown. These warm colors are timeless in modern homes. Finishing is easy as cedar is virtually pitched and resin free. Cedar accepts many finishes including oils, stains and paints. Unfinished cedar is also beautiful. The uses for Cedar are endless. Just a few uses include siding, ipe decking, ...
... beams, and so forth. Cedar's unique aroma stems from the naturally occurring chemicals in its heartwood. These chemicals naturally resist moisture and are toxic to fungus and insects. This natural preservative gives cedar its long lasting appeal.
Cedar is very environmentally friendly. Cedar harvest retains the natural biodiversity of each forest region in Canada. The harvested areas are regenerated with native tree species. More than 30 different species of trees are planted in the various regions to ensure that reforested areas are as diverse as the forests that were harvested. On average, 650 million trees are planted across Canada in areas where forest have been harvested, or have had wildfire or insect infestations.
Choosing the right material for your home is an important decision and cedar wood has always been in style. Cedar is available in almost any size. You can find cedar profiles from decking to large timbers or beams. If you need a full size deck to a small item to accentuate, cedar is common in 2x6 to 12x12. It is beautiful, durable, insect resistant, cost effective and will last for years and years to come. ABS Wood can help with new ideas and designs that fit you and your lifestyle.
