What To Look For In A Glass Tv Stand
There are several different styles to look at in a partial or completely glass TV stand, but you have to ask yourself what you're looking for in a TV stand before deciding finally on the partial or full glass stand unit.
Here are five key features you should try to keep an eye out for though:
- Make sure the glass is tempered - not only should you make sure your glass ‘parts' are difficult to smash, you should also ensure that you're confident that in the event it does smash, that it won't shard and splinter everywhere. While this may not seem entirely important when buying the piece, it's often one of the biggest considerations you'll have after it's been with you for a while - especially if you're in the remotest bit clumsy or have problems with damage, or chipping. Tempered glass will also be less likely to chip.
- Smoked or coloured glass looks better than clear glass - simply because it does longer between cleans. Glass often looks cluttered or dirty because it looks like you can see the dirt through it, but any prints should be easy to wipe and get rid of with a basic duster or micro cloth. Smoked ...
... glass will also look elegant, over see-through glass as it's easier to hide the cables and more.
- Make sure all of the elements to attach them to are undamaged and don't damage the glass - it's amazing how a little crack can turn into something much bigger when the wrong pressure is applied to the surface. If you think your glass unit has a crack in it, look to see if there's any way to bond, bind or repair it. There's always the possibility that you can repair it with care. If not, contact your supplier, you may find that they can help.
- If you can't dismantle it, make sure you can get it through the door and insist that your delivery driver helps you bring it in. Glass units aren't light, so you need to be careful when moving it. If it arrives in parts, then also be careful while moving it - it's important not to damage it when it's being built.
- Finally, remember that if your piece has any pieces of glass at all, that you need to be careful and ensure that any pieces you have are protected from children and bumping. If you're got a door for example, you may want to remove it while your child is learning to walk and at toddler stage. Tuck the door down the back of your unit to protect it till you can replace it. If your door can't be removed, consider installing a magnet to keep the door shut or find another way to protect the door, and your child.
