The 1968 season was the CFL was the 15th season of Canadian Football and the 11th official season of the Canadian Football League. The league was still growing and changing as it was a relatively new league. The CFL chose a new commissioner to run the league. With the new commissioner the league also adopted a new constitution.

There were two conferences in the CFL that featured a total of 9 teams. There were 5 teams in the Western Football Conference and 4 teams in the Eastern Football Conference. The Western Football Conference featured the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Eskimos, BC Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Eastern Football Conference consisted of the Ottawa Rough Riders, Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes.

Each conference had teams that stood out from the rest of the competition in the regular season. This season happened to be the year of the Rough Riders, or Roughriders if you were from the Western Football Conference.

The Eastern Rough Riders from Ottawa managed to take the honors of the best regular season record in their conference. ...
... The finished with a record of 9-3-2 in their 14 game season. They outscored every team in the league despite the fact that the Western Conference played 2 more games than the Eastern Conference. They also had a solid defense. Over the course of the season they managed to outscore their opponents by more than 140 points.

The Toronto Argonauts finished 2nd in the division with a 9-5 record. They had a solid team, but they were not the dominant team that the Rough Riders were in the regular season. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats would be the last playoff team in the Eastern Conference. They finished with a 6-7-1 record on the season. The Alouettes were last in the conference with a 3-9-2 record.

The Western Football Conference was led by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. They won more games than any team in the league. They finished with a 12-3-1 record. They allowed the fewest points in the league. This is impressive considering the Eastern Football Conference and their shorter schedule.

The Calgary Stampeders were second in the Western Conference with a 10-6 record. They were led by a strong defense and a strong offense. While they didn't have quite as good of a record as the Roughriders, many people thought that they were equally dangerous.

The Eskimos finished 8-7-1 to grab the last playoff spot in the Western Football Conference. The BC Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers would finish as the two worst teams in the conference.

As the playoffs came, the Ottawa Rough Riders showed just how good they were, making their way to the Grey Cup. The Saskatchewan Roughriders weren't quite so fortunate. The Stampeders were a tough team and managed to take out the Roughriders. They would go on to square off against Ottawa in the Grey Cup Championship game.

The Rough Riders proved to be too good in the end. They won the game 24-21 to become the Grey Cup Champs. Vic Washington was named the Grey Cup's Most Valuable Player.
