Castors come in various shapes, sizes, brands and combinations. They are used in a variety of settings depending on the type of job required, the load they can bear, and climatic changes in their surroundings, their operational height and many others details. In a setting such as a hospital many factors need to be considered before investing in castors. Primarily these castors should be silent, resistant to heat, water, chemicals and should also be capable of having a firm grip on tiled, wet and concrete surfaces.

There are a number of different castors that are utilized in the hospital setting for various purposes. One of the most durable and trusted of them, usually fixed to hospital laundry trolleys is the BZD series of castors. They are able to hold weights anywhere between 30 - 100kgs. These castors have a zinc-plated, pressed steel housing and can be fitted with a variety of different wheels. They are easily maneuverable and do not require much maintenance. They can also be fitted with a locking system which is very useful in a setting such as this. Since it is sensitive to the touch, just a mere prod of the toe ...
... can engage or disengage the locking device, thereby prompting or stopping movement of the castors. It is also equipped with a double ball race swivel head which makes it easier to negotiate winding bends, tight corners and uneven surfaces.

The 2BZD series of castors have dual wheels and are also ideal for hospitals. They glide over the floor smoothly, and also have an easy swiveling technique which makes them perfect for trolleys, and other movable equipment such as computers and medical devices. One of the most trusted castors is the SSMM series which offers a combination of stainless steel (grade 304), and choice of wheels (white nylon, blue rubber on black nylon or red polyurethane on white nylon). They can also be supplied fitted with a brake.

The WPUA Series of wheels are also an ideal choice to fit to hospital castors. They are non-marking and anti-static. Made up of a grey thermoplastic polyurethane tyre on a polypropylene rim, the thermoplastic polyurethane tyre tread is injected onto the central core with double mechanical anchoring. The central polyamide core has original DIN 625 bearings fitted which is supplied with 2RS water-proofing as standard. The wheels can bear loads of up to 160kg and are one of the most popular choices for castors used in a hospital environment.

In conclusion, it is very important to specify the correct castors for use in hospitals and other institutional settings. They need to be very good quality, and also to be manufactured adhering to precise specifications.
