Golf In Spain
GOLF IN SPAIN
Golf in Spain has been dominated in recent years by the construction of large numbers of courses in AndalucÃa and then more recently in Murcia. Both of these regions have been helped significantly by massive publicity campaigns and high profile backed investments revolving around the construction industry. The world crisis has altered the situation significantly and many golf courses now find themselves in the middle of semi completed construction sites.
But golf in Spain is not just about the south and proof of that is further up the Mediterranean coast in Catalonia and its cosmopolitan capital Barcelona, famed for its football, gastronomy, architecture and excellent climate. The golf courses of the Barcelona, Costa Brava and Costa Dorada regions rival any in the rest of Spain and include the PGA Golf de Catalunya, rated Nº2 in Spain after Valderrama and 88th in the world by Golf World magazine and the Real Club de Golf El Prat, the first Greg Norman design on continental Europe which is due to hold the Spanish Open in 2011. ...

Air communications to Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia are excellent, with airports situated in Reus/Tarragona, Girona/Costa Brava and Barcelona International. Reus and Girona are situated 1 hour to the south and north of Barcelona respectively and there are good rail and bus connections. Incidentally, the PGA Catalunya Resort is only 4kms from Girona airport and makes for an ideal getaway from anywhere in Europe with routes to this airport.
When we talk about golf in Spain, Barcelona is a hidden gem not only for the quality of its courses but for its culture and what it has to offer the golfer away from the golf itself.
The city itself is spectacular with its Mediterranean waterfront setting and the choice of bars & restaurants is never ending, ideal for groups or individuals alike.
Barcelona is well worth a thought when planning a golf trip, in fact a delightful change!
