Traditional Radiators Can Be The Best Choice
Whether you're interested in picking up old or antique radiators, or you're interested in picking up traditional style radiators that are brand new, you've got to consider a couple of things.
The first steps
Traditional radiators are designed basically to look ‘old fashioned' - they'll have antique finishes and fixtures and fittings. They are larger than newer style radiators, but have elegance and often contain interesting features that you won't find in the ‘corrugated' style of newer radiators.
So often the first step is considering whether you have room for traditional style radiators. If the answer is yes, and you can offer enough clearance around them to get the best out of them, then they should be a serious contender in your choice as to whether you want to use one or not.
Your next step is to decide your style - traditional radiators range from old style Victorian behemoths, right up to gorgeous, slightly sleeker Edwardian pieces, and beyond. If you've got no ‘favourite' style, consider looking at sets of radiators, bearing in mind that the overall style can be of one size ...
... or design and then be plain or ornate, based on your ultimate needs.
Measurement and fitting
If it's important to be sure that you're certain that your chosen style and its size fits. So once you've decided whether or what you'd like in place. At that point, you can also design and choose the colour scheme for your radiators - many cast iron manufactures can custom paint your radiator in appropriate paint to both enhance its natural beauty and match your colour scheme - meaning you can choose a radiator that blends with your décor without worrying about the colour of it. This is a valuable service as painting your own can be difficult - using the wrong paint can damage the metal or flake or peel if not prepared properly.
Fitting should be undertaken by someone that's aware of the fitting needs of cast iron radiators - care should be taken to fit them with the correct fixtures and fittings, which again can be sourced from the same group that provided your radiators.
And beyond
Once your radiators are fitted, they should only need minimal care - wiping them down with a cloth when dusty and hovering behind the radiators when required should keep them in pristine condition. If you've got to adjust their temperature, care should be taken not to use tools on the metal fixtures, because they could be damaged - instead, if possible you should turn them by hand or with custom tools provided. Other than that, you should just enjoy them - traditional radiators are designed to be enjoyed for dozens of years - they are amazing and can add that touch of class to any room.
