Wooden TV stands are by far the most common types of TV stand to encounter, whether they come with your TV or as an optional extra, but if you're choosing one for yourself, wood is definitely your best choice.

A surprising array of designs and weights

One of the things that pleasantly surprise most people is how elegant even compressed wood is - while many don't expect MDF style units to look good, the truth of the matter is that pine and more common ‘planks' are often made of compressed wood, just like MDFs and other materials. These planks are made by compressing the wood by air, with a blend of glue and other materials, to make the wood stronger. It can then be used just like planks or regular wood.

Higher quality stands are made of planks of wood, or other pieces of wood engraved, moulded and cut to size before being assembled. These can either be manufactured, or handmade, depending on what you'd like to find.

Bespoke pieces

Bespoke pieces are some of the best pieces to buy, but it's unusual to buy as a TV stand unless you're buying a set. Or an unusual ‘conversation' piece, ...
... though again, it's more common to have bookcases or other pieces as those. Bespoke or custom made pieces are the best though because they can be tailored to fit into spaces, while most of the ones that you buy in stores aren't designed to be customised extensively, though there are some ranges in some stores that are in effect modular and can be customised in a very rigid and limited way.

TV stands

Wooden TV stands can be used in a variety of places, but it's important to know about the care they need. It's not much, compared to say, glass or metal, but keeping your wood oiled and polished is always a good idea - it's less likely to split when overheated. When using wooden stands with TVs it's important to keep an eye on how hot your equipment is getting, or the wood can warp and damage - it's also very important to ensure that your cables aren't frayed or overheating as there's always the possibility that it could cause damage.

It's also important to be sure that your stand is designed for your equipment - there's no point in buying a flimsy stand if your TV is heavy. Buying slightly sturdier will allow you to have faith in what you're placing your equipment on - if you choose something that's designed to bear more than the collected approximate weight of your TV and other items, you'll find that your TV stand will last longer and look more elegant for longer.

Wooden TV stands are often designed for function as well as elegance, making the ease of use and choice of styles some of the broadest of all TV stand designs.
