Most people think of jewellery when you mention pearls. Indeed, some of the most unique and beautiful pieces of jewellery has been created throughout the ages from the gem known as jewellery. You might be surprised to learn that pearls can be used in many different things including the construction of unique pieces of art. Since the mid 20's, the Pearl Industry has encouraged the creation of several unique monument replicas.

The first, designed by Mikimoto, was a recreation of the Japanese Five Storied Pagoda Temple. This unique replica was created to honour the Philadelphia World Fair of 1926 and today it is kept in the Mikimoto Museum. It is created completely of thousands of individual pearls glued together to fashion a perfect copy of the Temple to scale.

After visiting Mount Vernon in 1933, Mikimoto created an exact miniature copy of the town and donated it to the Smithsonian Museum in 1939. This artist also created a copy of the Liberty Bell entirely out of thousands of pearls and was going to donate it to the US but WWII interrupted. ... Building in 1959. A few years later it was completed and the US Historical Society began to exhibit the monument to honour the rebirth of the cultured pearl industry.

Eventually this building was sold to generate revenues to support educational programs. Today, the pearl industry still exhibits the replica at special events and it is considered the jewel in their pearl collection. Forget the Lego brick, and enjoy this unique treasure created entirely out of pearls!
