The predominant colour of the pearl is known as the Bodycolour. It is often created by the type of mollusc the pearl comes from. The type of tissue and water conditions can also influence this final colour. Overtone refers to the colours that show on the pearl that changes the bodycolour of the pearl. Each pearl will also shimmer with other colours that seem to be hidden just below the surface. This part of the colour is referred to as the Orient.
