A Concise Look At The History Of The Automotive Vehicle
Then came the next development in 1752 when Leonty Shamshurenkov built an "auto-running" carriage with four wheels, but it ran on pedal power and was not successfully transformed into a working motor car.
In 1769 Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot altered a horse drawn carriage into a mechanical creation that had the ability to propel itself forward. It appears however, that there is some argument over this incident because there is testimony by a witness that puts forward that the automotive failed to stand up to real-life use.
The motor vehicle, which is recorded as the primary vehicle to be used on the road whilst being powered by steam was put together in 1801 and was called the Puffing Devil road locomotive. This car was based upon the make-up of the engine of a steam engine but it was unable to generate enough pressure using steam.
Nicephore Niepce and his brother Claude built the world's premier internal combustion engine in 1807, which they named a Pyreolophore. However, this was placed into a boat rather than an automobile. This problem was solved in that very year by Francois Isaac de Rivaz who came up with ...
... the design for the first car to be fuelled through internal combustion engine.
Moving on almost eighty years, we see Gustave Trouve designing a motor car that ran on electricity, had three wheels and was shown to all at the Parisian International Exposition of Electricity. The environmentally friendly nature of this vehicle was apparent in its use of a renewable energy resource.
Despite the groundwork being carried out by the inventive people mentioned, who are still unknown by many it was only when Karl Benz became a core part of the manufacturing process of vehicles that the car industry gained a sure footing.
In actual fact Benz helped to develop a four-stroke gas engine that was built in Mannheim, Germany in 1885. The basis of his company was formed on this premise and led to the sale of a brand new vehicle model a few years later.
Sadly not much success was had in ensuing period - a mere 25 cars were sold in the five year period between 1888 and 1893. Still, the field was nothing like the modern field of today and just this tiny figure was sufficient in helping the company grow further.
Benz decided to implement a licensing agreement with Emile Roger, who made Benz automobiles in France and sold them on. It was this step that was one of the leading serious commerce deals concerning cars on the planet and helped to generate plenty of capital, as now the public in two separate countries could buy a car from a single company.
In the next period, the creation of large scale production lines became more frequent specially by Henry Ford and Ransom Olds at his Oldsmobile factory. This meant that Ford could manufacture two cars in half an hour, which assisted them in becoming the massive car business that it is today.
Who would have thought that from such humble begins the giant car sector that is spread across the globe would be started. It appears that now there is an abundance of extras included too, like sat-navs, safety locks, child seats, purchase hire agreements, chrome spinning wheel covers. Changes are happening so fast that the next few years should be watched with a close eye for further technological and aesthetic changes.
