There is a new type of headlight that is significantly brighter than the usual headlights and gives off a bright blue tinted white light. This kind of light is called High Intensity Discharge (HID) and it is the newest trend in the automotive parts business. Some car manufacturers are beginning to use this new technology, as are a growing number of car owners. HID lights and HID xenon lights are similar in many ways. Both contain and utilize xenon as the primary gas that replaces the filament in high intensity discharge light bulbs.

Brightness is the most appealing factor in this discussion. Regular headlights cannot compare with Xenon HID lights. This is due to the use of arc lamp technology rather than regular filaments to produce a brighter light than that of traditional incandescent lights.

Energy consumption is another reason to consider Xenon HID lights. The technology used in HID bulbsproduces an extremely bright light and consumes about half of the energy as regular bulbs. This can be very helpful when installing them in cars and trucks because it is much less of ...
... a drain on the battery.

Another very important aspect of Xenon HID headlights is lifespan. Most traditional headlights are rated for one thousand years of burn time. A Xenon HID kit could last for the entire life of your car! Because it implores arc lamp technology, HID bulbs do not contain any filaments in them, as regular light bulbs do. These filaments tend to break down over time. When not present, they are one less thing to worry about in your headlight.

Another, and perhaps the most important factor, is cost. Although you might spend more initially when purchasing a kit, you will soon discover that you will save money over time. This is because you will never need to change the Xenon HID lights like you will need to change regular light bulbs after approximately one thousand hours.

The main difference between HID and Xenon HID light bulbs is mainly the time each takes to reach maximum output. The HID takes a bit longer than the Xenon, due to the difference in gasses. The HID uses metallic salts, also producing a greenish light, while the Xenon HID uses the inert gas xenon that gives off a blue tinted light. Other than that, both light bulb styles are similar in energy consumption and eventual output. Both are extremely bright and also extremely efficient. The choice is up to you.
