Replacing Your Sts Engine
The Cadillac STS engine is a technological marvel, which should come as no surprise for anyone that follows the automotive industry. Cadillac is well known for developing some of the most sophisticated engines in this hemisphere, and the STS is considered to be a rolling showcase of GM's best production-worthy technologies. Unfortunately, all good things do need to come to an end sometime. This means that even the most well-loved and maintained Cadillac STS engine is going to need to be replaced sooner or later. This inevitability leaves Cadillac owners with a few choices: buy a new Cadillac STS engine or look for a used Cadillac Engine.
The latter may not necessarily seem like a good idea at first glance, especially to discerning consumers that are less concerned about the bottom line as they are about the quality of the components that go in their luxury sports sedans. The truth is that a used Cadillac engine actually makes a great deal of sense to at least consider when replacing your STS engine for at least three very good reasons: compatibility, ...
... the environment, and your pocketbook.
The Cadillac STS has come equipped with a variety of motors over the years, but most of them fall into only one of two categories: Northstar and the recent high-feature V6 family of motors. The Northstar motors are common to many Cadillac offerings, and have evolved over several generations to combine robust reliability and serious performance. The result is that an STS can accept engines from a wide range of Cadillacs in many cases, unless the STS in question is an STS-V that was specifically designed for the extremely high performance supercharged 4.4L Northstar motors. While the STS-V models can accept components from other Cadillac engines, it is somewhat more challenging to find a truly 100% compatible used Cadillac engine that will work well in an STS-V simply because the motors are just so incredibly powerful and are also comparatively rare.
Both the high feature V6 and the Northstar motors as easily tuned and tweaked, which further broadens the appeal of used Cadillac motors. Many cars are designed to work with a narrow range of engines that have a shorter evolutionary period than that of the Northstar motors. This means that there is a much more narrow window for component re-certification and refurbishing for non-Cadillac motors as a general rule. To consumers, this means that a rebuilt, recertified, or otherwise used Cadillac engine may contain components gathered from a greater period of time so long as those components meet very stringent standards. This is good for the environment, but it also offers one more major advantage: price.
While Cadillac owners are often given to adopting a ‘price is no object' mentality, the truth is that people may care less about what is under the Cadillac's hood than what the interior of the vehicle is like and how it drives. Any quality used Cadillac engine should perform just like it came off the assembly line at a price that is only a fraction of what a new crate motor from GM would cost. What could you do with that extra savings? Pay for a year or so of college for a grandchild or cousin, take a trip to Hawaii, or a dozen other things.
About: Weighing these opportunities versus the premium of a new Cadillac STS engine should be a simple task for anyone with the savvy to get to a place in life where they can afford only the finest.
