The World Series of Poker is an event that has been growing in attendance and popularity for decades. The World Series of Poker has evolved into somewhat of a world-wide event today as many people watch the World Series of Poker to see the amazing styles of play and technique that are present at the tournament. It grew from a point of the winner making a couple hundred thousand dollars for winning the main event to something much greater. In 1995 the World Series of Poker had grown to an event that had two hundred and seventy three entrants in the main event with much more than just a couple hundred thousand dollars available to the winner.

The winner of the 1995 World Series of Poker was slated to make one million dollars. This sounds like a lot of money, but almost equally impressive were the totals of money available to everyone else in the top five finishers. The second place finisher would have a claim to more than five hundred thousand dollars. The third place finisher had a prize of more than three hundred thousand dollars. The 4th and 5th place finishers would also be more than happy after receiving their prizes ...
... of more than one hundred thousand dollars each. This sort of money just brought more and more excitement to the table. This caused more people to enter and more people to watch as well.

With the expanse of the tournament it was necessary to have somewhat of a qualifying process. There were major tournaments across the world that promised winners the opportunity to enter into the World Series of Poker if they won. There were also others that were invited for their notoriety and accomplishments throughout the years.

Everyone was excited for 1995 as the previous year featured the amazing prize of the weight of the winner in gold. Ironically, it was the largest man in the field that won the tournament, eating his way through his competition the whole time. This created a World Series of Poker story that would never be forgotten. After that, everyone was excited to see just what the 1995 World Series of Poker would have in store.

Like previous years the excitement was high from the very first day. Many players were eliminated quickly and it looked as if the whole field would be lost from view before much longer. While they field was burned down bit by bit there were a few players that emerged as the clear favorites to win the tournament. Two of the players in the best positions at the time were Howard Goldfarb and Dan Harrington. The game continued as these players mowed through their competition, eliminating player after player. When all was said and done these two players would have to go through each other before collecting their final prize.

This game was decided in dramatic fashion. Harrington was dealt cards that didn't look nearly as favorable as those that Goldfarb was holding. However, the flop came and it was clear to Harrington that he would have the opportunity to take the tournament after seeing that there was an 8 laid down. He went win a particularly bold move of all in. This caused Goldfarb to call and in the end Harrington would take the tournament. It was a bold play, but that sort of play is what's necessary if you want to take the tournament away from some of the best players in the world.
