Selecting A Remanufactured Ford Focus Engine

The SOHC Ford Focus engine was a low cost engine mated to a low cost car. While most Focus owners will never have problems with their Focus, this isn't the best of the Ford motors. Dropped valves (among other head problems) make this the Ford car engine with the greatest demand in the last decade.
The VIN P SOHC cam is but a continuation of a generation of low cost, fuel efficient Ford motors. It is common for smaller engines to have less longevity than larger engines, and this Ford car engine is no different. The reason behind this is simple: four cylinder engines require each cylinder to work harder, and the engines are less balanced. Balance is the process of dealing with the vibration at the first and second harmonic relative to the rotational frequency of the crankshaft. Adding weight to different parts of the engine, primarily the crankshaft, is the primary way that the harmonics are tamed, preventing damage to the engine. Since the vehicle that the VIN P engine is installed into is a small vehicle, and since the engine itself is quite small, only incredible engineering allows it to achieve the level of balance ...
... that it does - the level that is required to not shake apart. Even when the engine is operating as fully intended, it will never be a smooth engine.
So, in the Ford Focus car engine, you have an engine that is difficult to balance, underpowered, and perhaps not expensive enough in the eyes of its manufacturer to justify the expenditure required to produce an engine that fits into a lineup of otherwise quality ford motors. And your engine has now failed. What do you do?
You need to be looking for quality remanufactured ford engines. You need to be looking for a company that builds an engine that will last. If you buy another of these from Ford, you will probably get a run from it about as long as the original. But that's not what you want - you're a smart consumer, looking to save money long term and avoid headaches. Instead, you want your supplier of remanufactured Ford engines to be a company that uses the most advanced techniques available to remanufacture the cylinder head that will be put onto your remanufactured Ford engine. You want company that puts upgraded timing component kits on all their engines to ensure that they don't fail the same way your original engine did.
Look, your Focus doesn't have the best Ford car engine of all time, by any means, but when you replace it, you can upgrade - you can get what you deserve, pay a fair price, and not be burdened by a new car note.
About: Ultimately, isn't that what its all about - reliability and total cost of ownership? Does it make sense to drive a nice car if it bankrupts you? No - absolutely not. And the lower cost of ownership is what makes the Focus - for all its faults - the best ford car engine for the low budget driver.Drive well, my friends.
