National Court Judge, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has now sent all nine members of the EKIN group arrested last Tuesday in the Basque Country, Navarra, Cantabria and Aragón to prison. He took affirmations from the group over Friday and Saturday and ordered they all be kept in prison and face charges of belonging to a terrorist organisation.

EKIN is seen as another ETA aid group, and the judge's summary said that it ‘animated and controlled the distinct illegal associations of the abertzale nationalist left. It named SEGI, Gestoras Pro Amnistía and Askatasuna.

Meanwhile there has been a new statement from ETA, declared on the Diario ‘Gara' site and targeted at the international community, and those who signed the Brussels Declaration. It declares a willingness to ‘jointly analyse' the steps needed to be taken to find a democratic solution to the Basque conflict, ‘including the undertakings which ETA will have to adopt'.

The full statement was published in Sunday's edition of the newspaper, but exclusively ignored by the Prime Minister at a Socialist rally in Barcelona. José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero chose not to make mention of the development.
