Known to be one Korea's greatest performance feats available to the public, the Hyundai Tiburon is an affordable yet sporty coupe for most people. But, none of these successful accomplishments made by the Hyundai Tiburon would be possible if it was not for its Korean engineered Hyundai engine. The Hyundai Tiburon had a few engine possibilities to choose from. The Hyundai engines available in the first Hyundai Tiburon was a four cylinder, but packed a punch for its size. From 1996- 2001 the Hyundai Tiburon had three different engines to choose from, they were available with either a five speed manual transmission or an optional four speed with over drive automatic transmission. The first engine available to this Hyundai coupe was the 1.6 liter Hyundai engine.

This Hyundai engine came from factory with 116 horsepower at 5800 rpms and 106 ft/lb of torque at 4500 rpms. The next Hyundai engine was the base engine for the 1997 Hyundai Tiburon. This Hyundai engine packed a little bit more punch than the smaller 1.6 liter engine. The engine is the 1.8 liter ...
... Korean engineered Hyundai engine. It was known as the 1.8 liter inline 4 cylinder BETA. This Hyundai engine pushed out 130 horse power at 6000 rpms and 126 ft/lb of torque at 4200 rpms. There was also a more upscale engine than the 1.8 liter Hyundai engine available in 1997.

There was not a major performance upgrade between the engines but the performance difference was notable. The larger sized Hyundai engine offered in 1997 was available in the upscale FX model. The more upscale performance engine was known as the 2.0 liter inline 4 cylinder BETA 1CVT. The engine came original with a little more power ratings than the 1.8 liter engine, the 2.0 liter Hyundai engine boasted 140 horse power at 6000 rpm and pushed out 133 ft/lb of torque at 4800 rpm. The 1.6 liter Hyundai engine was able to bring the Hyundai Tiburon up to its top speed of 118 mph, which is pretty exceptional for such a small sized economical engine. The 1.8 liter four cylinder BETA was able to bring the Hyundai Tiburon to speeds of up to 124 mph, which is noticeably better than the smaller 1.6 liter. Finally, for the first generation Hyundai Tiburon, the 2.0 liter BETA 1CVT was capable of speeds that reached 130 mph, which shows its supremacy to the other two engines.

Next up are the rest of the generations of the Hyundai Tiburon. The performance of the engines do not change much after the second generation. But, the engines have changed from the first to second generation of the Hyundai Tiburon. From 2002 on Hyundai had a revised 4 cylinder which had less horse power, by 2. But, the new four cylinder was supposed to be more economical, and last longer. Now, te major performance upgrade that Hyundai made on their coupe was the introduction of the new 6 cylinder available on the gt models. The GT V6 Hyundai engine was a 2.7 liter engine.

The 2.7 liter V6 boasted 173 horse power at 6000 rpm and pushed out 181 ft/lb of torque at 3800 rpm. The 2.7 liter Hyundai engine was able to bring the Hyundai Tiburon to speeds of up to 145 mph, with the special optioned GT six speed manual gear box.

The V6 was able to bring the Hyundai to 132 mph with the lower grade automatic transmission. The transmission options for the newer generation Hyundai Tiburon was the same except for the new 6 speed manual gear box available only to the GT models.
