The Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ 32-member squad for next month’s Autumn Internationals will assemble in London, England, to prepare for Tests versus England, France, and Spain. Head coach Mick Byrne said European-based players will travel from their clubs, and those based in Fiji will fly to join them in England to begin their Three-Test preparations.

While final details were still being arranged, Byrne noted the squad will hold a regulation-nine camp. We’re just finalizing at the moment, we’re looking to run a reg-nine (regulation nine) camp over there, Byrne said. A regulation-nine camp is a rugby training camp organized under World Rugby Regulation Nine, which governs the release of players by clubs so they can represent their national teams.

He added that the team is ...
... expected to gather in London later this month, between October 25–27, to kick off their preparation for the Autumn Internationals. With the first Test against England set for November 8, Byrne welcomed the larger preparation window, emphasizing that the Flying Fijians rarely get such an opportunity ahead of major Autumn Internationals fixtures.

He emphasized that the training window is a valuable opportunity for the team to assemble and train properly for the Tests, unlike the narrow training window they had in Newcastle for their July encounter with the Australian Wallabies. There’s no victim statement here at all; it’s just stating facts, he said.

Autumn Internationals 2025: Flying Fijians Set for England Clash

We came up against a mini cyclone in Newcastle, so we only had one really good training session before we played Australia. So, for Fiji Rugby to allow us to come together with a camp and not have to prepare in a short period of time is great, and we’re very thankful for that opportunity, and we don’t get to do it very often.

The Flying Fijians face England in their first Test on Sunday, November 9, at Twickenham Stadium in London at 5:40 am. Meanwhile, in England’s training squad ahead of the Autumn Internationals, Tom Willis has been excluded. England head coach Steve Borthwick has announced a three-day training camp ahead of the Quilter Nations Series and has omitted Willis and former captain Owen Farrell.

Willis, who had established himself as England’s first-choice number eight, is omitted after he decides to leave Saracens at the end of the season and sign a contract with Top 14 side Bordeaux, making him ineligible for Autumn Internationals 2025 selection. There is also no place for Farrell, despite Borthwick having injury issues at inside center.

The 34-year-old, who has 112 England caps, has featured at inside center for Saracens this season and played midfield for the British and Irish Lions in the summer. The 19-year-old Noah Caluori, who scored five tries for Saracens in Saturday’s win over Sale, is included as an additional player as part of a development agreement with the Gallagher Premiership club.

England Vs Fiji: Flying Fijians Combine Youth and Experience for Autumn Internationals

The squad assembled on Sunday for the training camp at England’s performance center at Pennyhill Park. England take on Australia at Allianz Stadium on November 1 before matches against Fiji, New Zealand, and Argentina. Meanwhile, the Fiji Rugby Union expressed confidence that the upcoming European tour will boost both player development and Fiji’s visibility in global competitions.

The Flying Fijians’ management has also underscored the importance of building momentum early in their European campaign, noting that consistent performance in the Autumn Tests could strengthen Fiji’s standing on the international rugby ladder. Team officials believe that this extended camp will allow players to synchronize better on-field strategies and refine communication across all positions.

According to assistant coach Viliame Satala, the squad’s immediate focus is on discipline, precision, and maintaining high fitness standards before confronting three top-tier rugby nations in consecutive weeks. Byrne also highlighted that several young prospects have been added to the extended training list to gain valuable exposure alongside experienced internationals.

He mentioned that this blend of emerging and veteran players would help cultivate future leaders within the Fijian rugby system. Our objective is not only about the coming fixtures, Byrne explained, but to invest in our foundation for the next Rugby World Cup cycle. The coaching staff intends to give these younger athletes crucial game-simulation experience during practice sessions throughout the camp.
