Entrance Inc Offering Top Quality Logo Mats And Personalized Door Mats
Green solutions for interior and exterior floor mats were almost unheard of 5 years ago. However, during this past 5 years many green and innovative products have come to market. Why should a facility manager or building owner be interested in environmentally friendly door mat products? Well first a quality floor mat or doormat will save thousands of dollars every year in maintenance costs by acting as a barrier to dirt and water. The maintenance cost of removing one pound of dirt from a building now exceeds $750.00. Additionally as mats need to be replaced every few years the cost for disposal to our environment increases. This article will discuss three of the most popular green alternatives to floor matting..
Coir floor matting (also referred to as Coco matting or Cocoa matting) is made from coconut husks. Coir matting is one of the most popular sustainable floor matting materials. The processing and manufacturing of coir is also performed in environmentally responsible ways. Coir matting is extremely durable and can withstand punishing high traffic areas. The pile heights of Coir floor matting ranges from ½ in thickness ...
... all the way to two inches thick so checking door clearance is important.. In commercial applications Coir matting is usually inserted into a recessed floor area. Coir provides excellent scrapping action and can handle a fair amount of water absorption. Coir should never be used outside since heavy rains can force the mat to soak up so much water that its fibers swell which can damage the mat. Additionally customers should be made aware that as a natural product some shedding of the natural fibers is normal especially when first placed into service. A good vacuuming of the coir mat will minimize shedding.
Coir is also used extensively in Logo Mat applications. Cocoa is available in approximately 12 different colors. An added environmentally friendly advantage is that the colors contained in coir matting are dyed with natural vegetable dies. However a drawback to vegetable dies is that they are not UV stabilized and as such will fade in direct sunlight.
A popular alternative to Natural Coir matting (Cocoa matting or Coco matting) is a synthetic KOKO. While the fiber of the mat are synthetic the backing is comprised of 100% recycled rubber. The advantages to KOKO matting is that the colors are UV stabilized and will not fade additionally the mat can be used indoors and outdoors. Customer unfamiliar with purchasing natural Coir or Synthetic KOKO should consult with a knowledgeable consultant prior to purchasing.
