History Of Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football team. The Arizona Cardinals play in the most competitive football league in the world. This league is known as the National Football League or the NFL.
The franchise initially began play in Chicago. In Chicago they were known as the Morgan Athletic Club in the beginning. Eventually they took on the name of the Chicago Cardinals. The name of the Cardinals came about when the Morgan Athletic Club was invited to join the National Football League.
The Cardinals currently play in the NFC(National Football Conference) West. They have played in that division of the National Football Conference since 2002.
The Cardinals saw most of their greatest success in the early years that they were playing in Chicago. The first bit of success was one of the most controversial points of NFL history. The team was in the league before they ever began using a championship game. The Cardinals were one of the top teams in the league, but nobody really believed that they would be the team to be named champions. Against all odds the Pottsville Maroons were snubbed and did ...
... not receive the championship title.
The Cardinals won their first of two NFL Championships that year.
Although that was somewhat of an illegitimate championship, they did have another championship that was decided in normal fashion. The team managed to make the playoffs in 1947, and they were able to win the championship game. This was considered another NFL Championship. Although it was an NFL Championship it is held in a different regard in comparison to Super Bowl Champions. The Super Bowl was still a while from its beginning when the Cardinals won their titles.
Over the years the Cardinals have had up and down eras. It seems like they start to show signs of promise, but after a very short time they would fall from grace. This sort of thing happened for the Cardinals in the 70s.
The team found itself in position to contend in 1974. They were led by a solid team and managed to win the NFC East division title. The Cardinals found their selves in position to win the division again in 1975. These back to back division champions were the first division championships that the team had won in nearly 30 years.
Unfortunately the Cardinals found their team in another slump after 1975. The team went on another streak of more than 30 years without winning another division title. The Cardinals have finally bounced back in the last 2 years from the terrible streak that they had suffered.
The Cardinals have been fueled by a great passing attack in the past two years. They had two excellent receivers in Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. These two receivers are two of the top receivers in the game and both demand a ton of attention. The team was also led by Kurt Warner, a proven veteran that always seemed to step up for the team. They won the division title in 2008 and 2009 with this squad.
The team will now play without Boldin and Warner. Time will tell if the offense can continue on with their stellar passing attack.
