There are many advantages of making your own lures for bass fishing. Not only you will save a lot of money but you can also customize them in thousands of ways. Various parts are often combined in order to create the lure and by using different colors, weights and sizes that are matched to specific fishing situations, you can make lures that are specific to your fishing situation. Making lures for bass is a good way to make custom creations that may increase your catch, you never know until you try it. With this article we will try to offer you 5 simple steps to follow in order to make your very own lures. Here is what you will need: lure making wire, pliers, inline spinner body, rubber spinner skirt, beads, buzz bait blade, rivet collar.

Step 1 - hold an 8 inch long lure-making wire by using the jaws of a pair of needle nose pliers. This wire must be held ¾ to max 1 inch from the end of the wire. Onto the end of wire, slide a hook. The final size of the hook depends on your personal preference and buzz bait.

Step 2 - you now need to turn that wire around the hook and the needle nose pliers by using a second ...
... pair of pliers in order to successfully form a loop. Now, you need to pull the free end of the wire up alongside the main wire and bend the free end around main wire so that you will close the loop and secure the hook into place. Now it is time to remove the needle nose pliers.

Step 3 - it is time to slide a rubber skirt onto an in-line spinner body and slide it onto to wire followed by one/two colored beads, if you wish. By doing so, it will add weight to the buzz bait for casting and will help the bait sit in the water during the time when you will retrieve.

Step 4- take the wire and bend it 2 ½ to 3 inches above the loop you made in the previous steps in the end of the wire. Take the pliers and use them in order to bend the wire down, forming a ½ inch wide long U shape. You should measure ¾ inch down the U shape from the bend in the wire and bend the wire out at a right angle.

Step 5 - your last step would be to measure approximately 1 inch and bend the wire again by using the pliers, so that the wire will point straight down. Take a buzz blade and place it onto the free end of the wire that is pointing down followed by a rivet collar. You must assure that the wide flat end of the rivet is next to the blade. It is now time to finish the buzz bait by bending the wire just below the rivet, at a right angle. Next, trim the wire so that it will extend no more than about ¼ inch from the bend below the rivet.

As you can see, the procedure of making your very own homemade lures for bass fishing is not very hard, you just have to be very careful and take things nice and slow. Read these steps over and over until you get it right and make some of your own, saving a lot of money.
