An Overview Of Chrysler 300 Engines
The Chrysler 300 was originally a prestigious luxury automobile in the 1950's which fell from grace in the 1960's and then disappeared for 30 years. In 2004, it returned as a modernized, sporty, high performance sedan with a distinctive style, an impressive amount of power, and plenty of inside room.
An all American vehicle, the 300 has all the showy trappings that Americans love to love—double lens headlights, protruding fenders, big wheels, and a massive chrome grille. Though the overall look is bit old fashioned, the combination of both sporty and luxury based design evens out the retro feel and if anything only gives it more of a classic taste.
This trendy automobile comes with no less than five available engines, one of them a diesel, and an either 4 or 5 speed automatic transmission.
The basic model comes with a 2.7 liter V6 Chrysler engine and 190 horsepower. This engine has plenty of power to scoot around with and incredible mileage rates of around 21 miles per gallon in the city and up to 28 on the highway. It is said to ...
... be able to do zero to 60 miles per hour in just over six seconds.
A step up from the 2.7 liter, the Touring model of the Chrysler 300 uses a 3.5 liter V6 Chrysler engine which produces 250 horsepower and 250 pounds per foot of torque. The mileage on the Touring model is 17 in the city and up to 27 on the highway if high octane gasoline is used as recommended. The Touring model comes with a 4 speed transmission while the 300's Limited model features the same Chrysler engine as the Touring but with a 5 speed transmission.
The Chrysler 300's dream engine is a 5.7 liter Hemi V8. Although coming with the power of an eight cylinder, this Chrysler engine features the Multidisplacement System and will run on only four cylinders when possible in order to conserve more fuel. The mileage rate is comparable to the Touring and Limited models with an even 17 miles per gallon for city driving and 25 on the highway, but when all eight cylinders are used this Hemi can give an incredible 340 horses and 390 pounds of torque per foot. This V8 Chrysler engine features a pushrod system to increase fuel efficiency as well as speed, and uses two spark plugs for every cylinder in order to insure better burning of the fuel/air mixture and effectively reduce emissions.
In common with many Chrysler vehicles, when the 300 begins to get old it can start to develop certain engine problems especially along the lines of oil consumption. Engine sludge can begin to increase and, especially if the oil has not been changed regularly, this can contribute to the wearing down and eventual decease of your Chrysler engine. When this happens, many Chrysler 300 lovers have found the best option to be the purchase of a used engine for their car.
About: Buying a used Chrysler engine to replace its failed one can be a quick, cheap way to get your automobile back into the prime of its life and give you many more years of comfortable, luxurious driving.
