The word giclee is born from French language. It means spraying and while printing the ink is sprayed on to the canvas to obtain giclee prints. The digital printing technology uses a multicolor inkjet printer to get such astonishing prints. It uses a fine spray produced by six ink cartridges which use the archival superfine quality pigment based ink for the purpose.

Development of technology can be seen in many fields and development in printing technology has advanced in leaps and bounds with amazing results. The prints of some of the rare art works are as good as the original. It is really difficult to distinguish the copy from the original. Prints of fine art work using the digital printing technology are called the classic giclee prints or the iris prints. The original art work has to be photographed and a digital file has to be placed in the computer for it to fine tune the image. The prints as good as the original and the price is not more than ten percent of the price of the original work. Giclee canvas print was originally used as proofing system for the lithography printing. It was becoming evident that prints of the same could not be obtained by using lithography. People have found potential in adopting it as a business. Interested individuals may take training from art school and establish themselves as printers. They pick up some of the famous painters works of art and produce quality replicas and sell them for an affordable price.
