Most modern television stands are now made from glass or plastic. However this may not suit some home decors. Glass and plastic TV stands can look out of place in homes with traditional designs or those with mostly wooden furniture. This can make your home entertainment systems stand out and seem a bit intrusive in the room. Another problem with transparent glass TV stands is that you will be able to see the cables. This can look at little untidy and you may prefer a design that will hide away any cables or additional equipment.

Wooden TV stands

Wooden TV stands are available in lots of different designs and finishes. You should be able to find a style that suits your existing wooden furniture which will help to maintain the harmony of your room design. Wooden TV stands can be made from a number of different woods including classic oak, maple, beech and pine. You can also get some very affordable laminate wooden TV stands. These come flat packed so you will have to put them together yourself but this can be a very cost effective way of displaying your home entertainment equipment.

Modern televisions are ...
... very lightweight and this means that laminate furniture will easily support their weight. However if you have an older television these could be very heavy and may cause laminate wooden TV stands to sag in the middle over time. If you do have an older style television make sure you buy a wooden TV stand that can support the weight effectively.

Wooden TV Cabinets

If you want to make sure all of the cables and television equipment is hidden away from sight you can get some attractive wooden TV cabinets. These solid pieces of furniture allow you to store away your television equipment and the doors open up at the front to allow you easy access. Typically you would place the television on top of most wooden TV cabinets, but you can get designs which will also house the television as well. This means you would open up the doors when you want to watch the television and then close them away to keep all of your television equipment out of sight when not in use.

Caring for Wooden TV Stands

Wooden TV stands are easy to care for and all you will need to do is polish them every now and then to keep them clean and free from dust. If you have solid wood furniture then you could treat them now and again with a deep polish and cleaning solution. These remove any dirt that has become embedded into the grain and also conditions the wood to keep it supple and flexible. Make sure you read the manufacturer's instructions carefully for any wood polishing equipment and make sure you test the product on a small area first before use.

Wooden TV stands are the ideal choice for traditional homes. They are unobtrusive and available in a wide range of different styles, finishes and designs.
